Getting Deals Done: A&D Closing Team’s Superpower

A&D Mortgage is a leading mortgage lender, known for its broad range of loan programs, including Non-QM loan (Non-Qualified Mortgage) products, which set them apart in the mortgage industry. With quick turn times on loans, A&D gets our partners and borrowers across the finish line quickly and that doesn’t happen by accident. Our Closing team does amazing work – day in and day out.

So, how does the day-to-day routine of the closing department look? And how did A&D build such a strong and efficient team that is nearly free of missteps?

Welcome to the new issue of Mortgage Stars – a series of articles on the people behind A&D Mortgage achievements. Closing Team Lead Anna Kovan has shared a behind-the-scenes look at the closing department and insights into leadership in 2025.

Closing Team Role: Finalizing Your Loan

The Closing Team is responsible for the last step of the loan origination process. They check the accuracy of all documents, confirming loan terms, fees, and closing costs. As a key function of their role, the team prepares the Closing Disclosure, with all necessary papers for the closing date, and sends them to the title company.

The borrower receives the Closing Disclosure at least three business days before the closing for review. In the event they have questions, their brokers can address them to the Closing Team.

Precision, Speed, and Knowledge

The Closing Team role requires them to have a deep understanding of all steps of the loan process. This way, the team can check the documents thoroughly, finding the smallest discrepancies quickly. Each member must be meticulous and very attentive, as mistakes at the final step are costly.

“It’s crucial to be detail-oriented and quickly detect the root of the issue,” shares Anna.

Ongoing training and education are key to always being prepared and responding constructively in all unexpected situations. Continuous dialogue between the team lead and the team members helps stay effective in the long term and provide the highest level of service.

“While not taking it personally, the team lead needs to consider the feedback. Listening to what team members suggest and implementing their ideas is usually a growth point.”

Staying Focused with a Heavy Workload

Typically, borrowers choose the closing date at the end of the month as it allows them to pay less prepaid interest upfront and prolong the time before the first payment.

Therefore, the Closing Team has a more intense workload at the end of each month. Distributing tasks over the course of the month helps them to arrive prepared for this busy week and stay calm and focused.

Unity That Builds Success

Inside the team, it’s essential to maintain a friendly atmosphere and support open, honest conversations. Relationships are what power the team during challenging times and fuel its growth in the long run.

However, no matter how strong the team is, it is a part of the larger company, and it must develop accordingly. Aligning with the common goals and collaborating with other departments supports the success of both the team and the whole organization.

“Over the past four months, our team has grown by more than 20 people, which has undoubtedly had a positive impact on key performance indicators for both the team and the company,” says Vlad Tucker, the Team Lead of the Closing Department.
