Role in A&D and Achievements

A&D: What does your job require of you? What types of duties?

Jason Zak: My job requires a need to find new business through new broker partnerships and support them through a high level of customer service. In my opinion, there are 2 types of duties – external (for brokers), internal (for our colleagues). For both, my duties include being responsible, transparent, and honest to my broker partners and my colleagues alike.

What are some of your achievements during your time with the company?

I feel like I’ve come a long way from student to teacher. When I first started, I remember telling my significant other at the time that I want to be the best: have the highest results and the most partnerships. During my first year of work, I fought for high results, I succeeded, and I was proud of myself. In my second year, my biggest accomplishment was taking the skills and experience I gained to teach my colleagues how to succeed as well. In the 3rd year, I’m most proud of building a strong team, and working closely with each colleague to highlight their best skills.

What is your favorite achievement out of this list and why?

While my love for the competitive environment led me to success in my first year at A&D, I found my true passion in working with and for the team. Building processes, setting goals, and leading the group to new achievements. I think building a team and leading it to success is my greatest accomplishment.

Role Models & Advice to Young Mortgage Professionals

Who do you look up to as a role model or influence?

I spent a lot of time with my father during my teenage years. He had a home office. Dad would spend hours on calls with business partners. Afterwards, he would explain what he was trying to do. I think a lot of my success lies in learning from him.

Besides my father, I think I was also positively influenced by some colleagues I knew from the beginning of my career in the company. We pushed and motivated each other to close more deals. I give them credit for my success. Our competition was always healthy and exciting.

What advice would you give to a new or young mortgage professional?

Strive for consistency, it brings peace and purpose. At first, I had a very hard time getting consistent results. But once I took a step back and focused on them, everything seemed to fall into place. How to achieve consistency, I believe, depends on your approach and personal goals.

When you’re not at work, what are some of your favorite things to do?

I’m a huge fan of racing, like Formula One and go-karts. I’ve always been active in my life, football, tennis, wrestling and so on.

Jason started his career in the company focused on competition and personal achievements. Conversely, his career path led him in the exact opposite – building a team and working for its benefit. Jason Zak’s story shows how leadership and developing others often generates even greater results.
